In our last blog, we’d delved into damaging habits that can harm your back and solutions to those habits. Today, we’re continuing the trend with further ways to break those back-breaking habits. Better your back by relaxing, upgrading your mattress, and reassessing the shoes you wear (adding acupuncture, massage, and chiropractic to your routine certainly help as well!).
Stressed? The more stress you endure, the more your muscles clench; and clenched muscles can make your back become out of line. Take time out of your day to relax. Read a book, get a massage, drink tea, meditate. Acupuncture can work wonders for relaxation and back-muscle release. Do whatever you’d like, as long as it provides healthy relaxation.
An old mattress can be a nightmare for your back. If your mattress is bowed due to years of use, it’s outdated. Upgrade to a new mattress that’s moderately firm. A mattress that’s too firm or too soft may be harmful to your spine. Shop around for a mattress that truly feels comfortable – after all, you’ll be spending some eight hours per night on it!
Do you wear heels? Have your sneakers seen better days? Switch to support. Back misalignment can occur while you’re wearing footwear that lacks proper support. Seek foot orthotics or shoe inserts if problems continue.
